E Bacc

Interesting quote from Nick Gibb when answering questions at SSAT conference in Westminster on Thursday (12th May): “E Bacc. is one measure – and it’s not an accountability measure like the 5A*-C with English and Maths is”.

If he really means this, it would seem to point to it not being included in Ofsted’s metrics for their new framework of inspection, due to be implemented from January 2012.  The significance of this cannot be under-estimated as schools will not be subjected to the dreaded ‘significantly below  national average’ judgement when considering overall attainment and standards.  This is always the worry for schools with modest intakes in terms of prior attainment, especially if it becomes a ‘limiting judgement’.
