The debate about specialism

John Townley’s TES article

My colleague John Townley chairs the SSAT National Headteacher’s Steering Group.  During the autumn term a group of SSAT headteachers met with DfE officials, the Secretary of State  and key advisers to press the case for the benefits of specialism in the new political landscape.  In particular, we have been keen to stress the benefits for subject specialism and professional development that have arisen from ‘the programme’.  It is clear to me that these issues are crucial for politicians if they want system-wide improvement, rather than 3000-odd independently operating secondary schools.
